Bump in the road

Well... yesterday we ran into a wee little kink that we weren't expecting with the floor. Regular plywood had been ordered and nailed into place, instead of the AdvanTech.

I noticed that it didn't look like AdvanTech when I had gone to the site, after work, but it was confirmed by calls from Tim and Mike when I got home. We were given 3 different options.... rip off the plywood, put the AdvanTech over the plywood or keep the plywood and be compensated in some way.

Since we were completely sold on AdvanTech and it's pros, you'd think that the answer would be simple.... just rip it off, right?... cause that's not what we had ordered, but it would have to be a careful process.

According to a friend of Tim's family, who's in construction, in order to replace apply the AdvanTech, they would have to rip it off, not damaging the beams too much, completely remove the glue and then try not to nail the boards in the same spot.

Another thing he mentioned was that this kind of stuff happens all the time, that if we really wanted AdvanTech and that's what we signed on for, then go for it. He didn't want us to worry about setting things back a couple of days...... or even making the workers re-do something, cause we're the ones that are going to have to live with it.

After much consideration, we decided that the pros out way the cons and to have them rip off the plywood and go with the AdvanTech.

And I have to hand it to Mike, the second we made the decision, he got right on it. I talked to him this afternoon and the plywood got removed this morning, then the AdvanTech was applied this afternoon. It was a fast turn around and it only seemed to hold things up for a day.

The 2nd floor is scheduled for Friday and they will have the correct placement of the 2 windows that were in the incorrect spot in the lower level. Since the windows aline with the upper walls, they'll just aline the bottom windows to what the upper walls are.
