AC - turned on

2006
Sunday, June 18

Yep... it's that time of year..... hot sticky and yucky. Today it hit the 90's and we couldn't take it anymore. It's been cooling off nicely at night lately, but today it was so yucky that we decided to break down and test out that AC.

Unfortunately we had to level it first. The ground really settled in that corner and it was seriously off balance. The base is actually a chintzy hollow plastic thing, so we decided that it would be best to put boards underneath it. We would up using some extra pieces of the AdvanTech sub-flooring that use to cover the stairs to use.

After that, it was a simple flick of the switch and cool air was coming out of the vents. Within a matter of minutes it was already starting to feel cooler.

Garden Art

2006
Sunday, June 11

Locally we have an Art festival every year that's quite large. This year I was looking for garden art.... something funky to put in my... soon-to-be landscape. I found these funky sculptures made from rebar and large marbles that I was drawn to get. I thought it matched the squiggle decor items we had inside and figured I'd bring that element to the outside of our home.

For now their home is sticking into the gravel, by the front door, next to the rock we found on our honeymoon :)

Japanese Maple

2006
Friday, June 9

On my way home, I stopped at BJ's for typical stuff and wound up coming home with a friend for the front yard. I found a great looking baby Japanese Maple tree. It had good shaped branches, looked healthy and I couldn't pass it up.

Now all we need is a front lawn so I can plant it :)

Garage - 2nd Husky Upper Cabinet, Plants

2006
Monday, June 5

I managed to squeeze in after work assembling and installing the 2nd Husky wall cabinet in the garage.

Tim helped me hoist that baby up to the ceiling. Then once we got it on top of the other cabinet it was easy to screwed it in place.

After the hard work was done for the day, I had gone on to an actual girly thing..... I created several plant arrangements :) I love not traditional planting vases, such as square and using bottles. I bought a couple more bamboo plants and put them in square vases around the house.

We also have a bonus that came with the land. We have several areas on the property with wild lilies growing that I clipped and used around the house in bottle vases. I also used orange colored glass pebbles to tie the decor together throughout the house.

Garage - FastTrack Shelving & Husky Upper Cabinets

2006
Sunday, June 4

Today our garage got a little more organized. I installed shelving and cabinets on the tool side of the garage, by the window. The other side will eventually become the garden work area.

The shelving I installed is the Rubbermaid FastTrack system, which is similar to the closet system we installed in our master bedroom. It's satin nickel finish is not only a bit more sheek than the white wire stuff, but sooo much more easier to install.

The FastTrack system works with the track system also and the shelving uprights get hung right off of it.

The next thing I assembled and installed today was one of the 3 Husky wall cabinets we purchased.

I installed a piece of leftover bamboo underneath it to give just a little extra support to it. It was also that I didn't have to play around with leveling it, as well as a support while I screwed it into the studs.

I love how my work area is turning out so far. The garage looks so much more organized and fun to use the area. I mean.... our garage is an extension of our house, so why exclude it from having design :)
