Firepit - Excavation

Sunday, October 28

Ok... so now that the patio is done for this year, I want to finish another project, before the winter comes. That project is to finish the excavation of the fire pit in the backyard.

It's slowly shaping into a circular area with a sitting wall. I'm not sure how we'll finish it. Maybe it'll be stone or maybe we'll build some benches. I'll have to think on it over the winter.

Along with digging the firepit today, Tim and I buried some saplings that came from the house Tim grew up in. Two were pussy willow trees and the other was a pine. I hope they take as these are important to Tim. They are to him, as my magnolia was to me.

Entrance - Patio Construction - The Search for pavers

Monday, October 22

After work I had gone on a search for more pavers. This is a poopy time to purchase pavers apparently. I had gone to 3 different Home Depots and all, but one, was out of the PaveStone pavers. I talked to a worker at one and said thought that they might be discontinuing them..... of course..... figures.

The 3rd one I had gone to had a whole bunch though..... so i bought as many as I could cram in my car. It should be enough to finish the area by the door this weekend.

Entrance - Patio Construction - Pavers cont.

Sunday, October 21

Today started out with getting some more gravel and crushed limestone, followed by having to go to Harbor Freight for a new masonry blade. I guessed it was bad when you I started seeing sparks while I was trying to cut a paver. After I got a new blade, I was flying though.

Entrance - Patio Construction - Pavers cont.

Saturday, October 20

Now that it's getting darker earlier, I can't work as well during the week cause it's dark when I get home. I've been trying to cram in as much as I can during the weekends. I'm continuing to install the pavers by the front entrance.

It's looking less and less like a new build. The grass is almost fully grown in now.

Before our friends came over tonight, for a combined birthday party, I was able to lay two more rows of pavers down on the front patio area.

Entrance - Patio Construction - Pavers

Saturday, October 13

This was a busy couple of days. My Dad had an art show yesterday and today we have our families coming over for Tim's birthday party. but in between all that, I managed to lay down some more pavers that Tim and i bought this week.

Doing it today was interesting because I got up to the wall stone edge. So I got out my handy dandy 4 in. grinder saw and using a masonry blade, cut the blocks to fit around the wall stones. I really liked how it was starting to look. It just gives a really cool look to it.

Entrance - Patio Construction - gravel & pavers

Sunday, October 7

After building the front entrance area up a bit, I covered the dirt back over with gravel. There's a nice gradual slope to the front door now, where was previously a step up. I've also installed some paver edge tracks for laying out the pavestones.

After the gravel was laid out and tamped down, Tim and I started laying out the pavestones. We purchased the Pavestone Plaza I pavers from Home Depot. We're doing a pattern called Muster "K", which uses both square and rectangular pavers.
