Mantel Construction - Painted Wall

2007
Thursday, July 5

I was discussing with Tim about the corner wall that the fireplace is on. We decided that it's too bright of a color and takes your eye away from the fireplace and stone work. So I decided to sample the carmel color of the kitchen cabinets and get a paint that matched, in order to bring that color over to that side of the great room for consistence.

After I painted it I held the bottom mantel shelf up to see what it would look like and we both agreed that it was better with a darker paint. Not only did the caramel color draw your eye toward the fire place and stonework now, but because it's very close to the terra cotta color, it made the room feel wide.
