Ordered Bamboo Floors

Today, I had taken 1/2 a day off for Tim and I to go to Lumber Liquidators and order our bamboo floors. I can't speak for Tim, but I definitely had butterflies. I think the bamboo and the stone, on the front of the house, are the 2 things we're looking forward to the most, as far as ascetics go.

The man that we ordered with, John, was the same that helped us the last time we were there. We brought our plans and he added up all the square footage for us. They add in an extra 10% for waste, for uneven planks or goofs, but I hope we won't use it all up :)

We wound up selecting the horizontal bamboo grain for the main areas, but we liked the vertical look so much as well, that we would up getting a case to use for some boarder and inset treatment. We wanted some subtle insets, nothing fancy, or that stands out, but something that we'll know is there, so we're using the same color.

We were flip-flopping b/n bamboo and linoleum for a long time in the kitchen, but in the end, we decided to use the bamboo. Since the kitchen, dinning and living room basically one great room, we didn't want to break up the flow of the room, so we decided to continue the bamboo in the kitchen.

We'll also be building a triangular platform, which will become the last step of the stairway. We'll half to rip off the last pinewood step and replace it with the bamboo. The reason I wanted to do that was cause I wanted the last step and the kitchen counter to match the 45 degree angle of the fireplace. We liked the angles created by the fireplace so much we wanted to continue it as a theme throughout.
