One thing that has been on the check list for a loooong time has been the mantel shelves. I actually made templates for the shelves before xmas, but my Dad and I agreed that it would be easier to construct them during nice weather and not freeze our butts off in the garage.
So, when I was over my parents for the Fourth, my Dad and I started cutting the wood, from the templates. The shelves wrap around the wall, so they were each constructed out of 2 pieces of wood and glued together. The next step is to sand them down and polyurethane them.
